LightEdge Provides Hands-On Technical Experience to Local High School Students
DES MOINES, IA – September 3, 2015 – LightEdge Solutions is pleased to announce that it is partnering with the Aspiring Professional Experience (APEX) class out of Waukee High School for the 2015-2016 school year. This program draws on the expertise of business partners to bring real world application into their comprehensive high school experience.
Waukee APEX develops highly skilled and adaptable innovators, by combining classroom projects with on-site job shadowing and internships. LightEdge’s headquarter location in downtown Des Moines will act as the host site for this year’s class made up of 15 elite students each semester.
LightEdge is very excited to partner with Waukee APEX. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with these students and foster their growing interest in the field of technology. After 20 years in the industry, it’s a huge passion of ours and it’s great to be able to share it with such a talented group of students,” said LightEdge Chief Executive Officer, Jim Masterson.
Throughout the Information Management Design class students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on understanding by assisting members of the LightEdge team with thought-provoking and meaningful projects. This inquiry-based learning method enables students to further expand their critical thinking, communication and technical skills while gaining authentic career experience – all while still in high school!
This profession-based education model is revolutionizing high schools by providing junior and senior students with the skills necessary to succeed in the competitive college environment and ever-evolving global workforce. As a key leader of this emerging educational initiative, Waukee APEX is paving the way for high schools across the state and country to develop similar programs of their own.
