Building a stronger future for our clients—and the planet.
Our environmental commitment covers four critical areas that affect our business—and our clients.
Energy Efficiency
Across our data center network, we have implemented a broad range of practices to reduce energy consumption.
- Sustainable solutions: cold aisle containment, advanced cooling, motion-sensor lighting, building systems, and upgrades.
- Underground data centers in Kansas and Missouri use geothermal cooling to maintain a steady 65°F naturally.
- Our data centers achieve a weighted PUE of 1.54, outperforming the industry average of 1.6.
Renewable Energy
We partner with utilities to reduce our carbon footprint and let clients buy RECs to offset their energy use.
- MidAmerican powers our Des Moines data centers with 7,300 MW of wind energy and 141 MW from a new solar array.
- Evergy powers our Kansas City data center with 4,400 MW of wind energy and plans to add 3,300+ MW of renewables.
- SDGE provides 59% renewable electricity for our two San Diego data centers.
Water Conservation
Data center cooling requires a lot of water, so we are always exploring innovative ways to reduce water usage.
- Our Kansas and Missouri underground data centers use geothermal cooling, saving thousands of gallons of water by avoiding the use of cooling towers.
- We maintain a continuous focus on reducing water use and replenishing water supplies.
Recycling and Waste Management
We continuously strive to advance waste reduction efforts across all offices and data centers.
- We recycle all materials leaving our facilities, from paper to electronics.
- To cut single-use plastics, we’ve installed water filtration systems at every location.
- We work with Synetic and Circular Computing to recycle, refurbish, and repurpose equipment.
