Couldn’t make it to EMCworld this year? Lightedge was there and brought back a few key developments and takeaways we’d like to share with you.
Data Domain
The largest bank in the world recently deployed Data Domain as a backup solution for their IBM Systems I (AS400). EMC is ramping up this line of business targeting backups for IBM AS400’s.
DR as a Service
EMC emphasized this with all their products. The message to the EMC community appeared to layer EMC’s forecast with Disaster Recovery as the next solution focus.
VNX
EMC continues to push the pace with tighter integration for managing and monitoring of Microsoft Hyper-V and the VNX storage line. Using Microsoft SCCM allows organizations to blend storage management and application management into one manageable interface.
EMC Flash
Companies requiring extreme I/O performance for SQL, Exchange or Virtual Desktop infrastructures can take advantage of the EMC latest offering of Flash storage options. Utilizing software and hardware Flash cards at the compute layer, can minimize your need to populate your SAN with Flash. Here are some options that companies can take advantage of.
- Use Flash cards as local storage or caching for servers
- Software controlled caching, XtremSW cache
- Inline deduplication of data being accessed for extreme data reads and writes.
- Ability to split card mode, cache and DAS (act as local storage)
Syncplicity
EMC purchased Syncplicity, a document collaboration solution similar to dropbox that can be used cloud-based or as an on-premise solution.
