Thinking about colocation?

How to choose your colocation partner.

Your data is too important to trust to any colocation provider–so we’ve put together a list of five key factors you should consider as you evaluate potential facilities.

Premise Security

Does your colocation partner provide adequate security for equipment and infrastructure?

This may include: External Security: Fences, site access, locks, gates, security guards, windows, location, parking, structure. Internal Security – dual-factor identification in cages, individual locks, biometrics, and card-accessed doors, cameras 24/7/365.

Compliance Certifications

Does your colocation provider adhere to the standards you need to run your business?

Always ask for third-party audit results and certifications of potential partners.

Key certifications include PCI, HIPAA, HITRUST.

Redundant Power Supply

Ask how long your data center can run in the event of a power outage. What level of service can they provide on backup power? Do they have redundant, isolated-path power architecture?

Look for 100% Service-Level Agreements for power and redundant power systems.

Efficient Cooling

Can the facility reliably deliver cold air at the appropriate volume required to cool very high computing densities? Is the cooling infrastructure scalable?

Modern server racks require efficient cooling.

Multi-homed internet bandwidth

Does your provider provide sufficient bandwidth with multiple redundant Tier 1 providers, with high-capacity fiber and routing?

Your applications and workloads depend on connectivity.
